People consume food for energy, to recharge themselves every day. Food supplies the human body with the minerals, nutrients, and vitamins necessary to sustain and maintain good health. Aside from filling a person’s belly, food also feeds the soul. That is why sharing a meal is a must, especially within a family.

Every family mostly has that special family recipe, the one that gets passed down from grandmother or grandfather, to their sons or daughters, to their precious grandchildren. Especially when it is one that is delicious, generations of good food get passed down.

With all the hustle and bustle that every member of the family has to get through each day, there are times when not everyone can eat together. Parents wake up to get ready for work while also preparing their kids for school. The children get busy getting ready themselves and then rush off to ride the school bus or be driven to school by mom or dad. Then, when the kids come home, there is a chance that either mom or dad has to work late, not being able to eat together, even at least during dinner.

Life can get so busy, and it becomes difficult to balance everything out. While indeed it is difficult, it is necessary to keep in mind to make time for the one thing that matters most in life: family, and one way to do so is sharing a meal together. Not only does food provide fuel for the body, but it is also good for the soul!

It should not matter that mom or dad is busy with work; or that older brother is busy with baseball practice, and that younger sister needs to practice playing the violin some more for her upcoming recital. Whatever every member of the family’s schedule may be, it is a must to make time for meal time.

While all this is easier said than done, people can and should exert effort when it really matters. Most of all, family time matters. When a family eats together, they stay together, and they thrive together both as individuals and as a family. With that said, here are its benefits:

A time to introduce the children to healthy food

Meal times are the perfect chance for parents to incorporate into the minds of their little ones what foods are right for them while also warning them gently of which ones can hurt them especially in the long run.

A source of fuel for the brain and body

This is especially beneficial for children who are still in the process of growing and developing. Healthy eating habits are vita; in every age, and one way to ensure this is to eat meals together.

A way to help one another maintain good health

When families eat together, they tend to have a good relationship with food too, as balanced meals help maintain a healthy weight too!

An improvement in mental health

Sharing a meal provides an opportunity for families to express themselves to one another, especially appreciation. Most of all, meal times are a great time for families to open up about anything they may have to share about their day or anything else.

A time to demonstrate healthy habits with food

Aside from sitting down at the table to eat together, families can bond together to prepare food together and even include it as part of the family’s daily routine! Kids will develop not only their healthy eating habits but also their cooking and communication skills, guiding them towards independence in their later years!

Making tasty and healthy food is crucial, especially when it comes to enticing children, the ones who are picky eaters. Nevertheless, parents must make the utmost effort to ensure the well-being of their little ones, especially with regard to their social and emotional health.

So make sure to make time to share a meal with your loved ones whenever you can, for your own well-being and the people you hold dear most.
